The Norwegian government is opening up a new oil frontier in the Arctic. We cannot let that happen.
Two years ago we took them to court with the support of their own constitution that clearly says: "The state shall protect the rights of future generations to a safe and healthy environment." We said that drilling for more oil will only fuel climate change. But they did not listen. The court ruled that the Norwegian government is not responsible for the emissions from the oil they drill, because the oil is not burned in Norway. But oil is oil, no matter where it is burned, it fuels climate change.
This autumn the Norwegian youth group Nature and Youth, together with Greenpeace, will take this case to the court of appeal. In the meantime Equinor, a Norwegian state-owned oil company, is sending oil rigs to the Arctic. That’s why we are here. To end the age of oil. Together with you.
